Re: What size toilet flange and closet bend do I need?

I exchanged a couple of emails with John V. from Bathroom Machineries (http://www.deabath.com) and asked about the 3" vs 4" issue. He responded as follows: Yes, the older bowls have to have the 4" flange. If you use a 4x3 reducing flange, there usually isn't enough room for the wax ring. Go with the...

Re: What size toilet flange and closet bend do I need?

Hey Tom, In older homes, a 4" waste pipe from the toilet is common...not sure why though. In newer homes, this has been reduced to 3" and its all I've ever seen in remodels and newer homes. Code allows one to upsize a drain by one nominal size so a 4" is still code compliant. With low flow toilets, ...

Re: What size toilet flange and closet bend do I need?

Thanks for the reply. The measurement was right for a 15", but I had never heard of that before. I'd like to get it back as much as possible, but I don't want any problems with the seat in the up position. Maybe once I get one, I could mock it up before doing any real plumbing. The orifice on the bo...

What size toilet flange and closet bend do I need?

Hi All, I'm having trouble determing whether I need a 3" or a 4" closet bend and flange for this toilet. The low wall mount tank is marked KOHLER USA and both the tank and lid have Kohler part numbers marked K-6802. They were cast in early 1930. The bowl, which I assume was original along with the t...

Re: Craigslist Finds....

Yesterday we found a 1929/1930 low wall mount tank toilet on craigslist. We picked it up for $120. It needs a couple parts, but it's in great shape! http://1921foursquare.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/20121209_135451.jpg?w=300&h=225 Read about it: http://1921foursquare.wordpress.com/2012/12/09/new-oid...

Re: Old Sink -- Standard Faucet? Need opinions

I thought that sink looked familiar...then I went around the corner from my desk and, lo and behold.... Nice looking sink there! I like that tile in your bath too. It must be a pretty spacious room based on the picture there. We're thinking of doing white subway tile on the walls of our master bath...

Re: Old Sink -- Standard Faucet? Need opinions

We never pulled the trigger on that sink given that it was from the 1940s. We did, though, pick up a 1928 Standard sink for $65! What a steal. It appears to be in perfect condition--though it is dirty. We'll change out the faucet though. The local architectural salvage shop has something very simila...

Re: Old Sink -- Standard Faucet? Need opinions

Art Deco it is. I found out from the salvage shop that it's a Case branded sink (never heard of them) made in November of 1946, which is about 25 years too new for our house. I've always loved art deco style (which is probably why I like this sink) but it unfortunately not the style of my house. The...
