Re: Curtain Hardware - Cheaper Source?

I love those, Mury! I think I'm going to steal your idea for my kitchen. I've been struggling with what to do there. Very creative. As far as cheap ways to hang curtains are concerned, I had some rod pocket panels that I wanted to mount at the side of each window but that didn't need to be operable....

Re: How do you push through?

Thank you for all the words of encouragement! I didn't get all 10 done before the new tongue and groove beadboard (or whatever you call it) went up. However, it wasn't for lack of determination! I hit a spot in my porch where my "one foot on ladder, one foot on railing" technique would no longer fly...

How do you push through?

OK...I just staggered off my ladder to come up here and post this. Ahhhhhhhhhhh! Just needed a quick vent. I'm standing on the ladder stripping paint from the rafters on the eaves of my porch. It entails long periods with my arms straight over my head, holding a heat gun and scraper, with my body in...

Re: Hanging Pictures: What Wall Type?

Another little tip is to make an "X" with masking tape where you are going to drill/hammer (so you are drilling/hammering through two layers of the tape). It will help keep the plaster from crumbling all over the place.

Re: matching shutter hinges

I feel your pain and second the vote for eBay. I am searching for pintles that will fit the hinges on the old shutters I am restoring. EBay seems like the way to go. However, to a neophyte like me, there seem to be so many variables (offset and such) that I'm more than a little daunted. On a related...

Re: Picket fence details

Thanks so much for the pictures and links. They did give me some good ideas. I'm keeping it fairly basic, but have decided to add copper post caps and to have the pickets run between the posts rather than in front of the posts. I think that while you are at it you should put a fence in the front of ...
