I would definitely NOT remove anything original. You can work with what you have. I have a wall of original kitchen cabinets (from 1892) and they blend in perfectly with the new cabinets. They are what people are most interested in when they come to my house.

I believe they used armoires to hang clothing. Very nice house. Congratulations!

Try ebay. There are tons of old kitchen cabinets and things on there.

Try wall liner paper. It will give you a smooth look and keep everything in place.
