Re: oldifying brass chandelier
My opinion -- It appears to be one from the 1950's-'70's. The plastic sleeves that cover the wiring and sockets are too large and not original to the fixture. I picked up a slightly larger, almost identical chandelier at a garage sale for $25 that's also missing a few prisms. Mine uses candelabra-ba...

Re: Anyone want to move to Texas?
Property taxes in Texas may be higher than we like, but it's one of the few that doesn't have a state income tax (yet!).

Re: Potty suggestions anyone?
My low-flow toilet is a comfort height Toto with an elongated seat and it works very well. The plumber who installed it started recommending that brand about 25 years ago when it was virtually unknown. I believe the flush mechanism it uses originated in Japan but the toilets are now made in America.

Re: Painted Exterior Brick on 1905 Foursquare
I have the issue where my po that sold me the place must have paid someone about $5 to paint all the trim. They were SO messy & it's dripped all over my brick! It's a pain trying to find a product to remove it. I'm dealing with the same thing -- white paint drips and smears on red brick. The PO's l...

Alexander, thanks for the information about the cat pillow -- it's time for me for me to do some research.

Re: finished another stained glass window
That window is a genuine work of art! Crafting a design with so many of curves and details must be extremely difficult. Forgive me for changing the subject, but what can you tell me about that cat pillow on the chair near the window? Years ago, there used to be a U.S. company that printed cotton pan...

Re: You got spiders????
The only spiders that aren't welcome in my house are the black widow and the brown recluse. Fortunately, neither are particularly numerous around here. All the other little guys take care of gnats, mosquitoes and other flying insects that mistakenly come indoors. Brushing away the occasional spiderw...

Great looking furniture! However, if your rooms are large or have ceilings 9ft or higher, those pieces might appear too small for the space.

Re: Do I really need an open kitchen?
Friends of mine recently built a house in a historic neighborhood. It's exterior design resembles a pleasant, early 20th C. foursquare. But once you step inside the front door, you're in a cavernous, L-shaped open space that's living room, dining room and kitchen all combined -- a real shock to the ...
