Re: What's happened to our board?
I'm fairly certain others have tried to contact the owners of the site with no results.

Oh. My. God.
We have bats, but I'd say maybe only 2 dozen or so. This is insane!

Re: Cleaning and restoring dirty wood trim.
I think a really common error that people make with old things, including houses, is the desire to refinish everything so that it looks like it is brand new. Uh huh. When we first moved into our house I made removed all the hardware off of every door. The cast iron stuff cleaned up great with no da...

Re: Rotted Sill - replacement material?
You have no idea! I guess the exterior wood work will have to wait until spring, then. Chances aren't good that we'll get warm temps for an extended period... I think, then, the plan will have to be to fix up the sashes. Prime them, put in the new glass (all panes were previously cracked), and...

Re: Rotted Sill - replacement material?
We have our new sill in! Now we are racing against the weather to try and patch up the brick mold. I had to pull out what felt like 100s of staples from Christmas decorations of the past. I also had a hell of a time scraping out the caulk job of an overzealous renter. Does anyone know how strict the...

Re: Rotted Sill - replacement material?
The sill has been rotten for quite some time - long before we bought the house. It had been "patched" previously with spray foam and then painted over so that you couldn't tell to look at it (we discovered this as we were ripping it out). We do have a lightening rod cable that goes from the roof int...

Re: Stuff I Do (Lots of Pics)
Lovely work!
I'm especially intrigued by the curve topped double hung window, as that's what we have (although ours lack the pulley mechanism so are basically single hung).
Can you tell me more about the hinges you use for the storms? They look like some sort of specialty hinge?
