Re: What's happened to our board?

Maybe if the owners don't want to deal with the spam, they can at least pass the site on to someone else who will maintain it? What a shame... so much info and so many great people here.

Re: Black mold like you wouldn't believe

Thanks so much for your response! I am going to take down the sheet rock that isn't by the leak and see if it's moldy and try to gauge the extent of it. I spoke to my friend who is a contractor and he told me not to call a remediation company yet... it should be fine as long as I bag up the sheet ro...

Black mold like you wouldn't believe

Hi all. I just moved in to my new old house a two days ago. There is water damage in my bedroom, and the sellers assured us that it was from a roof leak that was long ago repaired. We really didn't believe them, and lo an behold, the night we moved in, it rained, and water started dripping in our be...

How about this one: http://www.favoritepaintcolorsblog.com/ ... tango.html

I really like that paint color blog. Good luck!

Re: Refinishing pine floors in 1880s house... Waterlox or poly?

We did not test the floor for lead paint before sanding. I have a test kit, so I will probably test any remaining paint before it gets finished, but part of me wants to not know for sure. I did test the mouldings and radiators and at least one layer of paint is lead. The guys sanding the floor are u...

Refinishing pine floors in 1880s house... Waterlox or poly?

Hi everyone, So I am getting ready to move in to my new old house. We ripped up at least 3 layers of ugly flooring in every room to discover beautiful pine. I think it's heart pine, but I'm not 100% sure. It's about 1" thick, maybe more, and tounge and groove. There is no subfloor. Here's my issue: ...

Is it possible that the walls were originally painted with calcimine paint?

Re: Help with my cast iron tub! Pink, peeling paint :(

Thanks for the great feedback everyone! Unfortunately, this is the only bathroom in the house. I can't take it out of the room because it is really really heavy, and I'd have to knck down at least two walls and remove a banister to take it outside. The bathroom is gutted right now except for the tub...

Re: Help with my cast iron tub! Pink, peeling paint :(

Thanks everyone. I picked up some barkeepers friend today. I am going to order some soygel too. Hopefully, it will all come off. I am scared to paint it, as I don't want brusk marks to be seen. Will a foam brush or a roller work better?
