Re: Is this place still going strong?

Yep, due to the fact this site was over run by spam and the owners did nothing...one of the members started wavyglass(dot)org. Many of the old members went there and it is similar to what OHW was back when you were last here....

Re: So a guy goes to a tax forclosure sale and for $250 he..

Welcome! For $250 you are already ahead, that IS a nice looking little house! (Pro tip: this is NOT the place to speak of bulldozing an old house!) It doesn't look to be in incredibly horrible shape and is probably in better shape than many have begun with. Pics of the inside would be nice to see to...

Re: Door stop removal

Welcome! It is possible that the jambs were made with integral stops, but more often than not they are applied to the jambs. Nancy's idea of stripping pint prior to removal is a good one if you cannot see whether or not they are a separate piece. If you want to continue trying, I would suggest using...

Re: need cedar clapboard advice- uncommon dimension

Or a relatively inexpensive solution, if your siding is available in seconds, would be to use two pieces each course and invert one of them to make the tapered end on the bottom on the underneath piece. That would create a ~1/2" thickness overall....

Re: Can anyone tell me what style of house this is?

I wouldn't say that it has a 'style'.

It is a highly personalized house built to specs of the original owner from the way it looks.

Not to be rude, but if I had to categorize it, I'd put it under "fugly".

Wow!

Nice job, they really turned out quite well.

Looks like nice slate flooring at the bottom of the stairs too!

Re: what to do after taking down old wallpaper

Spray it with water, let soak, and scrape off. After getting most if not all off, let dry, sand the area to smooth and prime with a non-water based primer. Your walls will be beautifully prepped and you can leave them until you decide on paint colors, etc...

Re: Tiling over brick fireplace questions...

I'm not going to get into the discussion of why doing the first process is more of a hassle than buttering the wall, buttering the cement board and then hanging the cement board. With that said, I would think that if you don't secure the cement board with tapcons, you will end up with a pile of ceme...
