Re: Lights, cabinets and mirrors for a 1930's bathroom
The medicine cabinet in my house (1930) is built in and is actually built to stick out of the wall about 2". How close to the finished wall surface is the chimney? this is original to the house as there is an identical one in the lower unit (duplex) of my house. Is there enough distance to partially...

Re: Possibly related: rodents and dead animal smell in wall
the fact that you feed your cat may be inhibiting her interest in hunting. get yourself at least two mature ratters and keep them hungry. i'm not saying starve them, but feeding a cat which has a somewhat untilitarian use is not the best move. the other thing besides closing up all ingress is to el...

Re: Enclose a Front Porch for Noise Reduction
Ill take the thread on a hard left turn here...
Have you thought about your landscaping in mitigating some of the noise? Shrubs, walls, Trees, fencing and earthen berms can be effective at absorbing or bouncing some of the road noise away from your house.

Re: Coping with a basement laundry
Our house does have a laundry chute although we don't use it.
My wife and I have pretty much nailed down the "I ran the last one" thing going on and tend to rotate running down or up. we rely on more frequent smaller loads. Also, it helps to never go down or up without some laundry in your hands.

Re: Plaster ceiling repair
I have a 1930 house and have the same type of plaster constructed walls and ceilings. Mine are also doing the same thing although they are installed perpendicular to the joists. Are the sections of plaster solid and sound? It sounds like if you are pushing on them they aren't really moving. If that ...

Re: Sad
So to summarize... why would you in terms of an investment, take something unique and tear out all the uniqueness and make it "dime a dozen". Basically devaluing the property. I think the anology i heard before was taking a classic Ferrari, but declaring that it's wonderful V12 engine by modern sta...

Re: hdtv must die!
What is the name of that show where that chick really gets upset that an original railing was boxed in???? Rehab Addict? I liked that she used lighting from Restorations when she couldn't find an original. Nicole Curtis - I know this because I have two shows saved on my DVR from April, she was re-d...

Re: hdtv must die!
Yeah, Rehab Addict. I actually appreciate that show. If I weren't a married man, that woman would be my ideal. Not bad on the eyes and doesn't mind working in an unheated house in an Illinios winter at midnight. Not too bad. It's pretty obvious she really likes doing the work. :) Actually the show ...

Re: Sad
looking at the picture you posted, are you sure it is not a four plex? If that is the case, then the new owner/landlord is only going to see it as an income property. Sadly, many landlords do not understand the value in the "old world charm" and the increased rent that can be asked of these places. ...
