Is it really beyond repair? Got most of the pieces? Got a picture of it? If you can lay it out on a board you can rebuild it. Making (soldering) stained glass is not hard. Cutting and grinding the pieces to a pattern is the hardest part and if you have the pieces well you are that much ahead... Here...

HoooBoy is right! That's a nice one and in great unmolested condition! If it were me I'd think long and hard about changes I'd regret later! P.S.--We're "parlor heat" twins! I have nearly the exact same 1950s (?) furnace in my parlor fireplace as you do! We're also kind of mantle/hearth twins, as well, only yours is a little more ornamented and has pinkish (?) tile, whereas mine is simpler, with green tile. :D http://jacob-garbe.com/our...
