Re: So You Think *YOUR* Floors Are Crooked???
Looks like they hired my PO's to redo their house! Same trim, same light fixtures, same windows, same total indifference to anything original.

Re: Pinterist?
I'm just learning about it... for ME it's a way to collect bookmarks online, so they're not specific to one browser on one PC. I'm using it to "pin" recipes, design ideas, articles, stuff like that. It's essentially a visual bookmark site married to social media, so that you can have "friends" whose...

Re: How to research/appraise antique silver miniature chest?
Have you thought about calling Winterthur? The curators department. I suspect they have lots of staff that would be knowledgeable on the subject. You're both in Delaware they can't be that far away, its a small state. No, I hadn't thought about that -- thank you for the suggestion, I'll definitely ...

Re: How to research/appraise antique silver miniature chest?
BTW, you might try sending pics of the box to the VA Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA. I'd be glad to find out the contacts for them. They have a huge Faberge collection there, so should have good info for a small objet d'art. I'd VERY much appreciate any contacts that you can dig up for me!! Th...

Re: How to research/appraise antique silver miniature chest?
Well, I'm two hours from the closest museums of any size, but there are a lot within that two hour radius (Philly, Baltimore and DC) so I'll start checking which ones might be the best to contact for a decorative arts question. I've looked at most of the marks posted here: http://www.925-1000.com/in...

Re: How to research/appraise antique silver miniature chest?
You can go to any reputable jewelry store and they will usually identify the marking for you for free or a very nominal sum. However, from the texture and color, I strongly suspect the piece is pewter, not silver or even silverplate. I live in a very small town, and none of the jewelry stores that ...

How to research/appraise antique silver miniature chest?
My first husband gave me this really amazing miniature silver chest when we were both in college - a trinket he picked up for not very much (since we were poor) for my birthday one year (probably '79 or '80). http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7021/6774328083_5a3bcb2062_z.jpg It's just 1.5" x 7/8" x 7/8"...
