Re: Fridge leaked, kitchen tiles now popping up - what to do???

Is this like the laminated click-together wood-look floors, only a tile look instead? It sounds like it from your description. (And what to do is absolutely not a stupid question!! That's what we're here for. Because we're going to have "stupid" problems we need help or just a 2nd opinion with, too....

Re: Epic: attemp to paint the windows

Hey, we have half of Tufts! Including its administrative building (an old Somerville school building sold to them)! Don't go claiming all the credit! :-) :-) I hear the damage skipped around a bit, so if you were on the wrong street (such as one in Arlington) trees went flying. No visible damage on ...

Re: Epic: attemp to paint the windows

And the reason I am not committed is because during the last windy day one of my third floor windows just blew off the hinges and landed in my yard. Did you get that scary windy thunderstorm that roared through Boston? I just saw they're calling it a "macroburst." For those out of the area, they're...

Re: Proud new owner of 1911 gambrel-style colonial

I love that toilet! It is sort of deco looking. Can't you get the stains out? I remember having stains in one of ours and I used Lime-away or something to clean it up. Diane The water in Boston is not hard - I assume the OP is on MWRA (Quabbin) water? I'm not sure what the stains would be, but prob...

Re: lrrking about again......

PS. I still only have stupid dial-up internet. But, really, someday, I'll post pictures. We just 2 weeks ago broke down and got my dad in northern NH Verizon mobile broadband for decidedly non-mobile use. Ridiculously expensive for the speed & download limits (no streaming movies, which is what my ...

Re: Funny Lines & Slogans

This doesn't really fit the thread, except I do find it funny - and I've had the image file around for years because I wanted to post it here, but the perfect thread never came up, and I just want to post it so I can clear it off my desktop! ghost switch.jpg My previous house - not so old (1950s), b...

Re: Atkins-Barnes Homestead circa 1730

I was going to point out that trees over a certain diameter were reserved for use as masts in the King's navy, so you wouldn't want your illegal (too-wide) boards where someone could see them - but I googled and found the maximum allowable for common people to have was 23" (21" in another reference)...

Re: Brooklyn Rowhouse - Opinions on Condition

MKD - And, while I was up at my dad's over the holiday weekend, and while showering and idly looking around, I remembered this thread and looked at the faucets. I didn't think to look for a maker (probably didn't say on the visible parts, and by the time I was out of the shower my mind had moved on ...

Re: Garter Snake "invasion"

Me, I'd keep the snakes. We get mice in my dad's house - they especially come in in the fall, and one year neighbors with a similar former farmhouse trapped 60 before Thanksgiving. Every dresser drawer has droppings and seeds in it, and occasionally clothes get chewed. When I visit, my cats used to ...

Re: Can anyone help identify my 1857 house?

Nice place. . . I agree Second Empire is the best description, even though the roof is hip on hip, not mansard. It could have been deck on hip originally, maybe. Which is pretty close to a mansard. Not Mansard because the top roof's not flat (lots of Mansards aren't flat - mine's definitely Mansard...
