Re: ae these the same house
I'm going to be bold and say not a chance. 1) Note the side by side windows vs. the single windows 2) While it's not super clear, it looks like the larger place has interlocking stone on its corners...the other place is straight brick. 3) The one house has a third floor mansard roof and then a 4th f...

Re: Yet another plaster question...
Here's a good thread that talked about plaster repair. http://www.oldhouseweb.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=28092&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=plaster+repair My preferred method is Big Wally's Plaster Magic. It's pretty easy to get it right without having any real technical skills. They have videos up on y...

Wow...I am fantastically jealous. The stain glass windows, the door/window trim, the fireplace mantles...that place is gorgeous. Congrats!

How to refinish veneer?
Hi all, A few months back I got an executive desk from the 20s-30s with walnut/walnut veneer from Craigslist. Overall, the veneer is in great shape, but I can't say the same about the finish, particularly on the top where there are many yellowish spots (water damage?) in the shape of coffee mugs and...

Re: Chair Identification
While I am by no means an expert, I have been spending quite a bit of time on Ebay searching for an Eastlake parlor chair for our library remodel. I would agree with Melissa that I don't think these are Eastlake (at least certainly not American Eastlake...too many curves and carvings that seem to re...

Re: Master Bedroom from HELL
I have no idea if this is the best method, but I've had success using those wire brush bits for your power drill. Does a good job of removing crud and surface rust, and pretty quick and easy.
And the room is looking a heck of a lot better! Strong work!

There's a drawing of what the original house looked like here:

It is amazing how a house that was once so grand could be allowed to get like that.
