Re: New Member New Old Cottage

Our house was a summer cottage built in 1907. I didn't know that! I've looked at the pic in your sig and never would have thought that. Cool. Ya'lls cottages are a lot bigger than I think of as a cottage lol. Our Cottage was remodeled into a full time residence in the 70's, we think. The living roo...

Re: New Member New Old Cottage

Cottage vernacular?

I don't know that a cottage usually has a style except for cottage, and the few pics of the inside look 100% cottage to me!

I'd love to see more. That railing is really great-I didn't know they could get that big!

Re: Why stop with the bedroom?

We found a little "surprise" under the fridge. All fixed, along with the random white drywall behind it, complete with the hole in it.

Re: Doorway Trim - Not enough clearance

We were just putting trim up in our bedroom and found the pull down attic stairs were so close to the wall that 1" thick trim wouldn't fit. So we ripped down the crown and door trim to 1/2" thick so the stairs didn't hit. We have trim pieces that are trimmed to fit in other places too, like the livi...

Ahhh....gotcha. I've never heard that term before. They were from my grandparent's house. The one bottle opener is a coke one, he LOVED coca cola. Always drank it warm....We also have a Cap Catcher. That one is a little unique, you're right. Beadboard and trim is up in the dining room, pics to follo...

Re: Why stop with the bedroom?

We are also making progress in the hall. These are our new old doors. You can see the beadboard too. The doors came from an old farm as part of an estate-they were in the barn for a LONG time, we got them before a local guy that makes benches, corner cabinets, etc did. We will have to add a little w...

Re: Why stop with the bedroom?

Thanks guys! Church key? Kitchen is getting there. We need to do the floors and we have some other things to do like putting the bricks behind the fridge where they left some white drywall (no idea why) and move a few pieces of the wood paneling so we can remove an outlet we aren't keeping. A little...

Re: Why stop with the bedroom?

Little more done, working on finishing the bricks and wiring. Found the fixtures. Gave up and went to Home Depot They look basically the same, just one's smaller than the other http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImages/300/2f/2f120ccb-0600-4cd3-8ea9-9d733de9d177_300.jpg Now we're not sure we li...
