Re: Painting new plaster. What type of paint to use?

I really don't like Behr paint. I find it rather inconsistent from can to can. One will be all gloppy, and the next rather thin and drippy. I suspect some cans sit on the shelves in the Home Despot for quite a long time. Or perhaps they don't have great quality control. I got Sherwin Williams paint ...

Re: Re-installing plank sheathing in kitchen hit a snag

Good luck, lupinfarm ! I asked my town's code enforcement office for a list of guidelines on what does and doesn't need a work permit. I was told that there were no guidelines. I asked how I'd know if I should get a permit, then. And I was told I should call them before I do any work of any kind, an...

Re: painters/plate rail/ wainsctting lovers opinion please

Seeing this here, now I know why you mentioned removing plate rail in my other thread! Goodness, you've got a bit of a mess on your hands there. I'm hoping someone with more experience than me will pipe up on some great refurbishing plan for the faux bois finishing. It seems a shame to lose it, even...

Re: Old Toilet Fans?

Keep it!! I detest my new toilet. It's so low to the ground, and just so ... I don't even know what. It's just not a real toilet. I miss the toilet we had when I was a little kid. It felt like you could have disco danced on it without it even moving.

You have to admit, though, that regardless of whether she was in the wrong or in the right, her responses are not appropriate! When you make a mistake, or people think you've made one, you say things like "I believe I made the proper decision. The board and I are discussing ways to improve communica...

Re: My first auction!!

Perfect timing on that link, downtowndahlgren . I was just about to ask how you guys find out about these auctions. Cause the only ones I know about are the storage site auctions, and repossessed vehicles. but... It turns out, that's all they know about in my area on that site, too! Guess Northern N...

Re: Where to hang pictures in a room with a plate rail?

Yeah...we're not plate people. We're just not delicate in any way. We'd probably break them. Even the botanical prints are pretty darn cutesy for my taste. (Since posting the idea earlier today, I've vacillated on it about ten times.) For example, this is one of the other pieces of "art" that we've ...

Re: hdtv must die!

I think you still give them too much credit there, downtowndahlgren . It's not just that they are aiming for a different market. Cause I really don't care if they use cheap materials in some 1990s townhouse. But when they show up at a gorgeous 1900s Victorian and replace the repairable plaster with ...

Re: Nothing like throwing history away

Wow. I tried to read that without assuming fault. But even the direct quotes from the Director who approved the sales, Kelly Linn, just make her sound so horrible! For example: "Should I have sold (the desk)? Probably not," Linn said. Linn said the museum had become a "dumping ground" for items peop...

Re: Where to hang pictures in a room with a plate rail?

We sure do, Chris ! Although I got the love seat size, due to the shrunken dimensions of my house. I've got some pictures of your place in my Inspiration folders, you know. You've got the real deal. I've just got a Craftsman "influenced" house. I wouldn't dream of removing the plate rail, though I k...
