CSI:Ashpit

Finally got around to moving stuff around in a part of the basement we hadn't touched since the move, and thought I'd clean up the ashes spilling out of the main chimney ashpit. I don't think anybody had touched it in decades...about two feet up, I found a Providence Journal page from May of 1966 (5...

Re: Sewing (Pic Heavy)

Nathalie, I'm sure it's a bit late, but I finally got around to cleaning up the cupboard in the basement, and I found the dining room paint. It's Sherwin Williams Duration, "Copper Mountain." I would not have guessed this from looking at it, but there you are. :)

Re: 1940 Census

I finally found the entry for our place--it was tucked some 35 pages away from the rest of the houses on this side of the street... :)

Anyway, explains why there was such nice reno work in the early '20s...the Swedish sea captain who bought it apparently became a contractor...

Re: Ventilator on top of chimney?

Whew...guys came by yest. and pulled it off, replacing it with a bluestone top. We heard it rumbling when it was very windy, but didn't realize until last night that we were pretty much constantly hearing it in the background. What a relief--the house is so quiet now. I felt better b/c the contracto...

Re: what did you get done on your house today?

Lessee...today I got a big chunk of the parged basement walls primed. Turned out to be a real pita, as the mason didn't leave things very flat. Will remember that detail for future reference... :)
