Re: Old Houses...never a dull baseboard...

Turned out to be 3-->4% moisture in the wood, which was lower than any other place I tried in the house. Shrug...I've tried stripping that same oil off trim near the basement, and it's like pulling teethh, and yet here it comes off of its own accord... Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure we have pine her...

Re: Old Houses...never a dull baseboard...

This was painting the POs had done (maybe a year ago?). I repainted the rad in the summer, and didn't notice anything. No rain lately either...odd.

Old Houses...never a dull baseboard...

Hmmm... Just when I was patting myself on the back for making good progress in the basement, my wife called me up to the dining room, and a big chung of paint had fallen from the baseboard. Basically, there was a big bubble, and I was easily able to break off a number of chunks: http://i142.photobuc...

Re: Hardie-Shake Shock!

We went through similar sticker shock this past summer trying to get quotes for a garage design that mimicked the main house. Most of the time, the contractors wouldn't actually even bother to call back after checking with the lumber yards for cedar shakes. :(

I think Skip has it right.

These are actual color prints--not colorized b&w.

Re: Painted Floors

Would stripping first really be the way to go? I stripped one of the treads on my basement stairs (huge paint splotches), which got rid of the paint, but then the wood was dark, and it took quite a bit of sanding to get that off. Probably want to test a small spot first (where have you heard that on...

Re: Sewing (Pic Heavy)

Ooops, doorknob pic slipped in... :) They did a colonial revival pass through the house in 1919-20, and the only remaining Lorraine door plates/knobs are that one and then the front door.
