Re: Please help my identify my house style
Hello and welcome! I agree that your house looks like it began as an I-house. My house was built in Indiana in 1864! : ) Your picture from 1960 shows several 6-over-6 windows; I would suspect that the two-over-two windows are original, and the small-paned ones were replacements. If you are able to m...

Re: Old Photo Treasury I assembled for you
Sooth, that is so sweet of you, but I am not sure what you mean. All of the pictures in my galleries are in other people's Flickr accounts. Yours are on Photobucket, so I can't "gallerize" them as I did the others. Do you mean I can just "steal" those from you and upload them to my Flickr account? (...

Re: Peanut Butter as a floor cleaner?
The peanut allergy thing *I THINK* has to do with the dust transmitting through the air (otherwise why would it be such a big deal on airplanes?). That's not a problem with peanut butter.
I would think that pests might be attracted to peanut butter used on the floor???
mmmmmm, hoagies

Re: Would you buy a house that was a mortuary...
I absolutely would buy it. The odds of reselling it can't be much worse than for any other house in a small town. I've seen the newspaper notices for at least three people whose funerals were held in my front parlor in the 1880s and 1890s, and I'm sure they died in my house as well. I never felt a s...

Re: Bamboo flooring? (Don't hate me!)
My father was a teacher his entire career. The school where he spent most of it was one of the "worst" in town. There ARE schools in the world where nobody cares about anything, and there are bad teachers. But Dad's wasn't one of those. The teachers and principals did everything they could to help t...

Fabulous. I've got a house picked out to buy later, and this will be perfect for its 2nd-floor Door to Nowhere.

Re: Floor grate resources?
No personal experience ordering from any website....I'd try architectural salvagers. There are a MILLION old grates out there for cheap, and it's an easy refinish job.

Re: A Great Find
Wonderful shopping triumph and wonderful chairs! If the leather wouldn't hold up on chairs, would it really make durable apparel or bags? :? If you do succeed in restoring the leather a bit, do please continue sharing how-to's and pics! Cadrad will know more about that furniture style, but it looks ...

Hi YM!
This is the best-case scenario! "Floating floor"! Clicks into place! This means it isn't glued or nailed. It's just protecting the original floors from damage. You're golden.
