Last weekend I picked up a 100 year old porch column that I found on craigslist for my back porch. It was $100 and a 150 mile round trip, but it was worth it.

Here it is installed with my Dad posing. I'm really happy with it. Removing the old 4x4s totally opens up the porch/deck. I have a very small amount to strip yet and plan on priming it tomorrow.

Wow, that looks fantastic. I had kind of been wondering what those oddly placed boards were for, but now it makes a lot more sense.

It was a screened in porch and made no sense at all. It just took me 9 months to find and put in a column with all the other stuff I had going on.

Edit: Wow my house looked like crap when we moved in. I can't believe I even bought it. lol.

Au contraire, my boy, I wouldn't say it looked too awful before; it's just that it looks so dazzlingly fantastic now! 8)

Lucky you! I need six (8 ft) just like that..and I'm willing to make a road trip for them.

I haven't posted in a long time. Took a long break on working on the house when my daughter was born (she just turned 6 months old). So, for an update, here is her room the day we got furniture back in February. It's much more decorated now.

This room had brown walls, which were painted over wallpaper. Blue painted hardwood floors and a cracked ceiling, which had been patched (badly). I stripped the paint and wallpaper and got down to bare plaster. I skimcoated the walls, which are now nearly perfect. I installed a plastic beadboard on the ceiling. Pretty neat stuff, although expensive and I wish it came in longer lengths. I finished it off with crown molding. We decided to get carpet put in because the existing hardwood was blue and carpet it a little more baby friendly for a nursery.

More updates to come soon with my current project.
