Pics from our Historic House Tour!

Postby oldhouseluvr on Sun Oct 09, 2011 9:09 pm

As some of you may recall, we put our house on a local historic house tour this past Saturday. I have to say that the tour was a success and everything went very smoothly. We really enjoyed ourselves and it was very rewarding to hear the feedback of people who appreciate old houses!

We took lots of pics and I have a bunch to share here, but I also created a Flickr album. This is the first time I've ever used Flickr so hope this works OK. Some of the pics are out of order, but I couldn't figure out to rearrange them.

My sister and nieces came over and helped me decorate for Fall. In advance of the tour, one of my summer projects was to repaint the porch floor and the wicker furniture.

This is the parlor, complete with a Victorian gentleman (DH IRL :D ), who greeted our guests. My niece made the floral arrangement and I love the way it turned out!

So incredible! It's like getting to be on the tour myself. I love it.

If you were so inclined, you could make your Flickr slide show into an educational house tour website. A few lines could introduce and follow each picture, just like if you were giving the tour yourself in person. I'd visit regularly!

Thanks, Kristen! I definitely want to go back and add captions to the Flickr pics. This is the first time I've used it and I am finding the editing to be something of a challenge. Not to mention trying to figure out the difference between a photostream, set, gallery, etc!

Added another set of pics to my Flickr album. These were taken by a neighborhood kid with an interest in photography. The panoramas are pretty cool.

Oh, OHL, what lovely pictures! Thank you for sharing! I hope you got as many compliments from the tour guests as you deserved.

As soon as I saw the dollhouse, I set to work evaluating and identifying the style. :)

I like the metal whatnot on the porch, and the window shade in the bathroom, and your bracket light ensemble is to die for. Are any of the furnishings heirlooms?

LOL about the dollhouse. Some might say that it is similar to our house. :)

The tour was 3 hours long and we had about 60 to 70 people. We really enjoyed ourselves. Most of the guests were old house lovers themselves and took a real interest in the house and its history. Very little of our furniture is new. Most of it comes from ebay, craigs list or auction finds. The waterfall cedar chest in the second floor hall was DH's grandmothers. The oak dresser in the hall was one that we bought about 25 yrs ago and refinished. My grandmother had a nice collection of vintage furnishings and the music cabinet and linens were hers. I don't pay much for the stuff I buy. I just pick things up somewhat randomly and hope that they work.
