venting my water heater

Postby bobby2679 on Sun Dec 24, 2006 2:47 am

I'm starting on my whole house remodel. The chimney currently serves one purpose, to vent the newer water heater. The furnace, a higher effeciency goes out the side of the basement wall. I want to dismantle the chimney if at all possible, it totally interferes with my plans for the 1st and 2nd floors, but how else can I vent the water heater, a newer 68 gallon gas Rheem that I want to keep. What exactly is a power vent heater? Can I power vent a non-power vent heater? Can I vent the heater out thru the wall like with the furnace? Any other ideas to vent this water heater without running it thru the chimney that I want to get rid of?
