Does anyone know the best way to neutralize wood after methylene chloride (heat did the bulk, but chemical made it pretty ) stripping? Someone told me to soak it in straight vinegar for awhile and then allow to dry thoroughly.

acetic acid(frm. photo stores) diluted is the neutralizer for peel away. Most folks think its vinegar.

what are the signs of stripper bruns? Contractor used peel away on exterior, wood is leaching a tanish- brown substance. He blames the leatching on moisture but it is sticky and some what oily feeling. I have heard of peel away accelerating into the wood and that it has been band from several historic project. Can you tell me how to tell if this is actually a stripper problem?

PEEL AWAY SELLS A NEUTRALIZER FOR EXTERIOR USE. THE DIRECTIONS SAY NOT TO USE VINEGAR FOR EXTERIOR USE. THEY SAY TO FOLLOW UP WITH A 100% ACRYLIC PRIMER WHICH WILL BLOCK STAINS FROM BLEEDING THROUGH.

I don't use peel-away anymore because it salts through the paint even after neutralization. I washed of the residue with a garden hose sprayer with some pressure until the water ran clear. Then I washed with soap and water and rinsed. Then I neutralized. In some areas I did not paint for a year (I know this is bad), but when I did, salting came up through the paint. If I needed to wash and neutralize it more thoroughly , then I think the product is just too difficult to use. Give me a break this process took longer than using a heat gun or other stripper.
