Sidewalk Plantings for an 1880 home

Postby Judy Smith on Mon Mar 01, 1999 7:26 pm

I am interested in plants along the sidewalk leading to a 1880 brick home, in full sun, zone 5. I would like to know what might have been planted at the turn of the century. Thank you for your help.

One of my favorite plants for the old house look is hollyhocks. They are strong and diease resistant. A poppy was very popular. Be sure to plant your poppy seeds a fews weeks apart to get the blooming affect longer. Also the climbing vine, and rose family was used for potourri along with the lavendar plants. hope this gives you some research to read before spring comes. respectfully, una howe
