crown molding

Post by Rob Nichols »

I have an old house and in the process of remodeling the dining room. I have purchased a unique crown molding but the walls are not straight and the modeling has gaps where the moldling butts up with the wall. is there any way to correct this?

This is a fairly common problem when trimming out older houses.

I'll assume you've nailed into every stud, and that the depressions are between studs. If the gaps are fairly small, say, 3/8'' or less, you can prime the molding and then caulk the gaps before applying your finish coats of paint. If the gaps are larger, you may want to do some work on the walls themselves before putting up your crown molding.

Good luck, Ken Holmes
