Also, we've narrowed it down to 2 colours. There will be white wainscoting and the furniture is reddish.

I think the Hudson Bay colour is the winner. I like the cobalt but not as a room colour. We talked to a structural engineer (my wife works with him) and we will be installing a new beam, as the existing was poorly conceived.

The wife was away tonight so I got a lot done :)

Another night of deconstruction. I swear soon you guys will see pictures of stuff going back onto the walls!

Anyone know an easier way to read old pencil marks on a wall? This one says SH, UNB '06. UNB is the local university, and I can only assume 06 refers to 1906. I found a couple other dates that go back to 1904! (our house used to be a cottage, so naturally you write on the walls of the cottage!)

Finally, an update. I've been busy most nights this week and working weekends (it's apple season and the family orchard is crazy busy). Luckily for me it was a rainy day today so I had a chance to do our structural work!

The typical shots.

The new beam! It is a triple 2x10, so it takes up the same space as the old beam, but actually supports the second floor!

It was just DW and I, and a 12 foot long triple 2x10 is quite heavy! We screwed a ledge to the wall to set one side of the beam on, and then setup our farm jacks. The beam was leveled and the new posts were cut to fit.
