Hi circuspeanut,
I read but don't post on garden web--have seen you posting over there. So, hey.

will get you to the website of the guy who sells leather hides. Jack is about 80. I think he said that JART stands for everybody's first initial in the family. If you want me to go stroke/feel some leather for you, I'd be happy to. haha He will probably charge you $135 for a hide. He sells all over the US.

Just don't say you want tan because he get's a big laugh out of that. Tan comes in 20 colors.

I agree with the others, renaissance revival almost bordering on gothic revival. The heavy tacks, sturdy straight legs and the leather inserts are the hints for me. Some were in the 1870 to 1890 range. And yes, I find Victorian furniture going at great bargains. The large victorian pieces as mentioned don,t fit into newer homes. I 've been buying eastlake chairs for $50 Canuck bucks. Just bought a great eastlake dresser with original mirror and raised hat(or bonnet) draw for $250. Two high backed pier chairs and matching hall table for an even Grand. A truly large gothic design set. On the other hand I find period lighting to be a bit expensive.
