Uncovered a hidden gem!

Postby lupinfarm on Sun Mar 25, 2012 10:18 pm

Was removing drywall from under my kitchen stairs and found this lovely original paneling. It appears that there is some faux
wood grain. Unfortunately the paneling isn't on all the walls. However I plan on replicating it on the remaining 3 walls complete
with the 1/4 round.

That's beautiful! Did you know it was there when you started planning to do board walls in the kitchen? Or is this just an amazing happy accident? :) :) :)

interesting! That robin's egg blue color reminds me of the basement in my first old house!

Hi mfglickman...I had no idea the board paneling was there when I started ripping out the drywall. I had to take the drywall
out to get the plywood and OSB, self leveler layers removed. Funny the original 1/4 round is still at the bottom. However now
finding it has made my decision on wall treatment easy, as I absolutely love it. Strange housecrazy sarah and josiecat Robins egg blue is one of my fave colors so I may be tempted to go with that color for all the walls. Anyhow finding my "hidden gen"
gave me extra impetus to remove more of the drywall over by my kitchen/living room pass through and along with the lack
of structural support I found some snippets of really old wallpaper. Not sure if any one out there can identify it from the "wee swatch" that is left. But perhaps if I can find a larger sample as a nod to the original owners I could incorporate it some how
into my design. Funny just when I thought the POs had completely obliterated the house's past it rears its head.

*sigh* I really wish your photos were bigger. I am always squinting and trying to see the details. :(
