Help me find an orange wall paint that I won't hate

Post by Abuela »

I promised my 6yo granddaughter that she could paint her room in my 1930's farmhouse with arts and crafts pretensions, and she wants more than anything to paint it orange.

I told her that I'd allow it if I chose the exact shade, but I'm having trouble finding something that doesn't feel as if it's going to make me seriously wince in a month or two.

FYI in case any of these things alter your suggestions: She's a tomboy who loves bold, deep colors so a pastel orange isn't going to cut it. The room isn't huge - roughly 12x12. There are windows on the SW and NW walls in the room.

Any suggestions?

How about this one: http://www.favoritepaintcolorsblog.com/ ... tango.html

I think you could make orange work with the right accents.

I really like that paint color blog. Good luck!

I had a similar issue with my daughter who went through a (thankfully) very brief pink phase. Unfortunately, that's exactly when we were going to be painting her room. I found a pink which I could live with, by color matching to a swatch of Bradbury and Bradbury arts and crafts wall paper. Now that she is older and "hates pink", she's still happy with the shade.

Taking a quick look, here are some orange options (you can order a swatch and then have your paint store match): http://www.bradbury.com/blsm_925_sienna.html

Perhaps more of a historic pumpkin or rust type orange?

We use the Historic Colors of America put out by Historic New England and California Paints - you can take the color you like from the brochure to the paint store of your choice and they will match it.

They also have the physical brochure at most (all?) Benjamin Moore's - I find that I have a hard time trusting colors on a computer screen.

Have you played around with the Benjamin Moore website? It's pretty cool, and gives you a lot of options, and colors to coordinate with your oranges. Play with the color section as well as the room section.

The url is gigantic so I won't link. You can find it easily via any internet search.
