Its been a problem for quite a long time. I realized now that I took for granted this forum would always be here for us, and its hard seeing it ruined with all this spam.
One of us from this forum has created a new one with better protection.
I see Schag venting his frustration now and again but I manage a Facebook page with two MILLION members and have no problem keeping it under control. I moderate the page all by myself. So what's the big deal about logging in once a day, spending an hour or so cleaning up, then having a coffee?
Are his moderating powers not sufficient to actually ban spammers, and if not, why?
This board has 15,300 registered users, and five moderators can't keep this board under control? I've got two million fans, six hundred/one thousand daily comments and 200 uploaded images a week. I have three people posting updates, images and articles, and that's all they do, I handle all the cleanup/moderating. I created the Page four years ago and have been managing it daily from the beginning. I have NEVER been overwhelmed by it. Oldhouseweb forum is phpBB based, it's one of the most popular platforms. Moderating this message board should be open-and-shut.

When Ken and Deb Holmes owned this board it wasn't a problem, but the new owners are perfectly content to draw off the revenue and not lift a finger. As I recall Shag is a mod, as is Don(with limited powers.) Tina B. was one at one time but I haven't seen her on in better than a year.
Every man must have a purpose to strive for
A cause to fight for
A dream to live for

A Man without a Dream is Dead
The owners should not have to lift a finger; they need only give permission/access to the admin account. If someone can get the password and go into admin, they can update the forum to phpBB3 and take advantage of their anti-spambot registration software.
