IMHO, yes we should invest more money in Machine Learning (ML) in medicine.
Some cancer screening is done by a pathologist, who must examine suspect cells under a microscope. This is time consuming and expensive. While the error rate is small, nobody wants an error (either False Positive or False Negative) to happen to them.
Another area ML in medicine would help, would be in diagnosing rare diseases. If the disease is rare, the average doctor probably wouldn’t know or remember the symptoms that would lead you to conclude that the rare disease is present
