can't stop thinking about that sink

Postby KathyJB on Tue Nov 03, 2009 6:02 pm

I just can't thinking about that sink I saw this past Saturday. I've been searching and searching and can't find a thing like it. If a spout was part of the porcelain sink, would I say that it was integrated? And how did they do that? How can a spout be a part of the sink? I wish I would have looked at it better. I bet the hardware was original too. I roughly sketched what I remembered of it. I sure need to start carrying my digital camera. The sink was flat up against the wall, oh how do I describe that other than it wasn't your everyday normal bathroom sink attached to a wall with no pedestal? The part you see that has the hot/cold and faucet spout thingy was flat. The spout was formed in the porcelain.
(I sure hope the sparks from Santa hitting the roof doesn't cause a fire, lol, just kidding W)

well lo and behold, I found something similar. This porcelain spout is bigger. The one I saw was rounded like the hot and cold hardware that was on it. The backsplash was also higher. Being rounded, not the one in the photo, what era do you think it was from?

THAT'S IT!

There was not lock on the bathroom door, so I asked if the lady registering would allow her son to guard the door, so he did. When I came out I commented on how cool that sink was. The boy rushed in, came out and said, "That sink isn't cool" Kids. I know I'll regret not asking about the sink. The house is scheduled to be torn down, I don't know when. I told one of the relatives to PLEASE take down the light fixtures in the living room before that happens. I think I am going to email the folks that were hired to conduct the estate sale to get a number. Maybe they still have them.

I have seen sinks like that. The spicket is kind of like a nose. My son's friend's house has one.

Personally... while I appreciate the original detail... I hate this kind of sink. I find it makes hand washing akward.

House was built in the 30s, I think, FWIW.

Yes, it is like a nose, the whole sink is like a face. I really didn't pay attention to how easy or hard it was to wash your hands, like you I was looking at the architecture. I like looking at things like hardware and such. There is another bathroom sink at an auction house we go to every now and again that has paddle like hardware in it. I would guess it is from the 50's? It's interesting to see how much things change. You kinda wonder what was going through the designers head at the time.
