Ownership Day!

Postby KSR on Wed Mar 11, 2009 1:53 pm

It's official (or will be when the wire transfer clears): we paid off the house today! We had a 30 year mortgage, but by over paying every month, along with a whopper payment about a year and a half ago, we paid it off in 5 years. I was very giddy about it yesterday, but a little more calm today. A while back we figured out how much we'd save in interest by paying it off early, and while I can't remember the exact figure right now, I do remember it was staggering.

utopia, I'm cracking up at the rowdy army of cheering smilies! We're going to go out for dinner for sure, but I don't know what else-? It is a little sobering to hear that the statisticians have now increased the number of foreclosures around the country to 1 out of every 4 homes...gulp! I'm glad I can tell the Old House people, because I hesitate to make a big deal of it to my family since my sister lost her job of 12 years last about 10 days ago, and my other sisters are having health and elder care problems with potential $$$ impact.
When we got the last monthly real estate listings I found myself scoping out the old fixer-uppers...save me....

Thank you, Mary Alice! Yes, she does--those smilies look way too much like the gang I hung out with in college!

Yay for the "R"s! I look forward to the day when we don't have a mortgage hanging over our heads. By then, the taxes will probably more than the mortgage anyway. :?

Congratulations - very liberating isn't it?

The Purple House has no mortgage, she was a cash buy and just about every time I see her I think "mine, all mine" - insert evil chuckle.

You don't need to tell your real family, especially if it might be taken the wrong way :( because your OHW family are so pleased for you both

Doing a happy dance 8)
