The butler's pantry is cleaned and fixed!!!!!!

Post by Vaso7 »

Yeah!
Today I have something to share. First round of renovation is done for my butler's pantry.
So it is rewired, cleaned, has a new ceiling (plumbing disaster), the orange wallpaper from the 80's is gone and I PROUDLY hung one of my crochet valances and crochet borders! The floor (fir) is also refinished. The wood of the cabinets is just polished. Eventually it will need to be shellacked but hey I need a break. Also the counter top and the sink need to get back to period but at least they are cleaned. Hope you enjoy!

Wow! That's really pretty! What a great looking, and handy area to have.

Do you have a couple of before shots you could share?

gorgeous!!!!

(Though I can't help but feel really sad looking at pics like this since I know that our house had a big, gorgeous butler's pantry before the PO's gutted it and tossed everything...)

Although we put a lot of work in this pantry the before pictures are not much different except for the orange flowery wallpaper. I mean you can not see the rewiring, or the amount of dirt in a picture. The ceiling too looked ok but it was loose (form water) and ready to fall down. Sometimes a before picture is deceiving....

Here it is the before picture!

I now realize that I do not have a lot of before pictures. I was so depressed when we moved in this home and it was so dirty that I could not touch anything that I did not actually take pictures. I do regret it now....
You can see the paper and also the white marks from the water disaster that I had to rub for hours because I did not want to completely strip the wood...
I also spent time cleaning and re-gluing the light fixture. It was sticky and fuzzy. Is this a nice description? The glass part was broken and glued with dark brown cement. I boiled it, got the cement out and then re glued with instant glue. Came out awesome and I truly love it.

That turned out beautifully! Your crochet work and wood really complement each other well. Nice job!

BTW - what's the story with the light fixture? Is it antique?
