Ghosts in old houses?

I am a firm believer in the super natural. Call me a nut case if you want lol but I have been called a sensitive by a lot of people. I have experienced things from a very young age, in all the houses I lived in as a child, teen, adult and I sill experience things now...It didn't matter if the house was owned, rented, or a friends house that I stayed the night at. My father has even told me that as an infant I would always look at different areas in different houses and either smile, or scream.

I have a TON of stories beings as I have had a TON of encounters. I can't even believe I am posting this on the internet lol. I promise, I am no crazier than the rest of you! I even have I THINK physical proof of such visitors. I have to see if I kept them or not.

Anyways, do you guys feel that you have had more or less paranormal activity living in an older home? I have read some of the ghostie threads, and I can't remember who it was that had an unwelcomed guest spoon her in bed, but your definitely NOT alone, as I have had the same exact thing happen.

Anyways, I was just curious. I want to learn as much as I can about old houses, even if that means unexplained things or unwelcomed/welcomed guests. I have done a lot of research on the paranormal in my lifetime, I am not a ghost hunter lol, but I happen to find them whether or not I am looking for them. My children have even encountered other world beings, and still do. They hate that mommy is a sensitive, and my 7yr old always says that every house we have lived in seems to be a bed and breakfast for spirits. We have some that have stuck with us through the years, and some that literally just pass through. Anyways, I'm done rambling, I think I have had enough coffee for the day :)

Oh, and my husband who was a firm non believer is now very sure that spirits exist!

Lady Green, Welcome to the insanty!!

I have had no real encounters but a little paranormal activity in the house in the form of smells (pipe tobacco - no one smokes and we had been in the house over a year when that happened, and perm solution as one room was used as a beauty salon).

One of my recent guests (family friend) told me he saw a woman in the corner of the back parlour and the front parlor. When he was sleeping on the couch. He also lives in a very active house and I don't think he's a kook. I was told by two sensitives that there was a lady there in that area of the house just watching and checking up on things.

My Aunt and Cousin have had plenty of encounters in the old house she lived in that was built in 1685. I don't think they're nuts either.

I wouldn't mind hearing more encounters. Sometimes I think that if a house doesn't come with a ghost it is like getting a cupcake without the cream filled center!

A man's face at the bottom of the couch. We call him george, he has been with me since I could remember. I was 11 the first time I had seen him. Also notice on the wall that is circled in red? That is the same woman in the china cabinet. Her name is Elizabeth. (Circled in red)

Most of these pictures were taken when I had felt like I was not alone, something a fellow sensitive had told me to do in order to get proof that I wasn't crazy ;) I do communicate to my ghosties, usually telling them to knock off the practical jokes. I have had things taken and replaced into different rooms of the house. I have been poked, pinched, scratched, pushed, tickled and spoken to. I have found objects in areas that would never of been there from a simple misplacement.

I have had spirits lay next to me in bed, take my food, throw my coffee, play with my lights and they have even taken showers with me lol. I can get into detail, but I am in the process of eating a homemade sausage, egg and cheese sandwich :) I will follow up with stories in a few minutes.

We've always had a sense of peace, although I have seen the newspaper notices of funerals held in our house, of people who died there. You can search the forums to see some real hair-raising tales, if you like.

I have never had any experiences until I moved to my current home. I lived in a very old house most of my life and then spent my teen years in a 30 year old home. I have researched a little bit of the history of my house but their are still some mysteries. I know the original owner died in the home and I assume his wife also did. Once the wife died, the house was bought by one of the Catholic churches and used as a convent. According to the city directories, the nuns lived here from 1921 to 1948-49. There is also about a year gap in the directory showing no residents in the house during that time. I have found evidence of a massive fire that completely burned off a second floor room and destroyed the main roof minus the gables in the front. Judging by the look of the wood used to frame the roof, it appears to have happened around the time the nuns moved out. Anyways... The first thing that happened was about 4 months after I bought the house. I worked 2nd shift at the time and usually got off work around 1am. I got home and went up to the attic to play guitar. Sometimes, a friend of mine would stop by and play guitar with me since he also worked 2nd shift. I wasn't playing very loud and started to hear very heavy footsteps come up the attic staircase. I heard them hit the top step and turned around, only to see nothing. I put down the guitar and left (I was still living with my parents at the time). About a month later, I was getting the house cleaned up for the local parade the next day. I live on the main street and knew a lot of people would be stopping by wanting a tour so I was trying to get rid of all the dust and debris. About 1am, I finished the downstairs and decided to go clean the upstairs. At this time, the only thing in the house was a large guitar amp in the attic. I got about halfway up the stairs and there was a loud sound that shook the floor. I could tell it came from the attic, so I went up to see what it was. I figured somehow the amp fell over because that would be the only thing heavy enough to shake the floors. I got up to the attic and everything was good. All the windows were latched shut and the amp wasn't knocked over. Decided then it was a good time to leave. After that I didn't have any issues for about one year, I still wasn't living in the house though. I finally decided to move in around April of 2008. My girlfriend at the time would also stay there often. There were a few rooms upstairs that I haven't worked on yet so we picked one as the bedroom. The room we chose is the room you have to go through to get to the attic stairs. It is also adjacent to the room that burned off in the fire. A week or two went by with no problems. One night, my gf was downstairs doing dishes. I was in the bedroom watching the news with the door pushed shut but not all the way so that it latched. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched the door open all the way. Then, it slammed shut like someone pushed it with all there might. No windows or doors were open so I knew it wasn't that. The door is also perfectly plumb, it will not open or close on its own. I kinda shrugged it off but it did bother me. Nothing else happened for about a week. The next time, my gf and I were sleeping. The door was always kept shut at night. We both woke up jumping at the same time because we heard a loud noise. The door opened itself, and slammed shut again. At this point, she really did not want to stay there anymore. Wasn't much I could do so I started staying there by myself. About another week went by with nothing. One night, I was laying in bed watching the news. The door was shut and I actually watched the knob turn and the door started to open. At this point, I think I was mad more than I was scared. I was losing sleep worrying about this all the time. I jumped up and just started yelling, I told it to get out and it was my house. I also thought it had something to do with that room. So I moved all my stuff across the hall to another bedroom. Never had any problems in that room. I now live in the downstairs and it is not uncommon for me to hear that door open/slam or footsteps on what sounds like the attic stairs or the 2nd floor hallway.

OldLadyGreen- WOW! I can definitely see a man in the last pic.!!! Creepy. I Can't see anything in the china cabinet though? It might be my computer. Either way...very strange.
I've always been able to "sense" things as well. I've never had anything really creepy/unexplainable happen in my current house, but I do get the sense that I'm not alone. I don't feel "threatened" in any way though. I could often swear I see a man walk into my bedroom while I'm sitting in the living room...just out of the corner of my eye...but when I look full on- nothing. There have also been lots of odd thumps and bumps I hear once in a while...however I have two cats and two large dogs, plus two rambunctious young boys- so I never know if it's them or? something else? Things are often misplaced here as well, but again...with kids, it's hard to know exactly WHO may have moved them. My 4 month old daughter is always smiling at random things...but my boys did that too...maybe that's a normal baby thing. I truely believe in the paranormal, but I always try and find a reasonable answer to anything that goes on before concluding it may be a ghost or spirit. (Maybe more so for the sake of not freaking myself out, lol) Would love to hear more stories on this subject...it has always intrigued me.

It's almost time for Lavenderbush's annual bump of the ghost story threads, so watch for that, haunted-house fans!

We are doing another major face lift on the house and since we have been working on it, I have noticed a few odd ball things happening. Three times in the last month I heard the sound of something falling over/crashing (not a loud crash like the baby gate falling over) but when I go to check it is upright. All happens during the night.
Dog doesn't get upset, he's pretty deaf, so I don't think he hears it.

will post pictures as soon as the front is finished with before/during and afters too....

I have just purchased a much-neglected house in Concord, NH. It needs everything but we started with floor sanding which seems to have upset some previous residents. As I was coming up the front stairs I glanced into the first room we were working on and saw a white figure of a woman run across the floor into the wall-on the other side of that wall is the outline of an old closed up door so I guess that was where she was headed! Very spooky especially at 4 in the afternoon-can't wait to see what comes out at night!
