We built a Chicken Bungalow!

Because we're insane, we decided to build our chicken coop in the same style as the houses in our neighborhood. Most of the wood was 100 year old redwood, left over from siding our house.

I figured you folks might enjoy this.

Thanks! What's not pictured here is the enclosed "run."

We also built a portable "tractor" so that the birds could spend time on the lawn, without trashing my garden or escaping.

Hmmm! I'm not sure the chickens would consider this the ideal neighbor.

Insanity? I think it's wonderful! Someday we'll have chickens, I hope. Great job.

BTW...it's great to see you back here, Lisa.

Too bad the spam got so bad. Some of us have been spending time at the new community for folks with a love of old houses at wavyglass.org

You're lucky that Oakland is progressive about having backyard chickens in a suburban area - I think that's awesome. I'd love to have some here, but I'm truly afraid that they'd get attacked by the local coyotes, despite the fencing. BTW, that's a bungalow any chicken would be proud to occupy!

Sweet! My chicken pen (with observation storage area) is on hold and it's so close to being finished. The husband unit is under the weather right now and can't help me finish, plus we have been getting rain everyday and it's so humid. I'm not complaining about the rain though :D Just wish Warren would get rain as well as the other states experiencing the drought we did last year :(

Did you join the Backyard Chickens Forum? Lots of really cool coops to look at over there.

nice.
unfortunately the ship has sailed on urban chickens in our town. something about viruses. Would be a great step forward in food security, but our city is not known for progressive decision-making.
