We learned this morning that our neighborhood,Heritage Hill in Grand Rapids, was named one of the best in the country by the American Planning Association. The award will look nice on the wall at the Association office, right next to the This Old House Best Neighborhoods award that we got last year. And to think that Newsweek called our city a dying city a few years ago.

I know some of you live in amazing neighborhoods. Does your neighborhood association apply for these types of awards?

Congrats to you!! While the awards are nice....the best thing is that, quite obviously, your neighborhood is also a safe place to live!

It's an uphill battle, but that is what my neighbors are striving towards. Good for you! :D

Congrats to Heritage Hill! I'm proud for our city as well - we have a great tradition of preservation.

Congratulations! I have family in Grand Rapids and have always admired the older neighborhoods in that city. Detroit has much to learn from Grand Rapids when it comes to historic preservation and fostering vibrant neighborhoods.

My neighborhood, The Villages area of Detroit was named one of the Best Neighborhoods in which to buy an old house a couple of years ago. We've gotten more positive press lately, with a feature in American Bungalow Magazine's current issue, and another article a couple of issues back.

I love to hear this about any area in MI. I think it is such a beautiful state and am sad about the continual employment issues the people face there. Congratulations!
