PLEASE HELP ME FIND A SCREEN DOOR

Can you help me find a screen door?

The dimensions need to be: 33.5" wide by 90" tall. As you stand on the front porch and face the entrance the hinges need to be on the left, and the white porcelain knob on the right.

We lost our door  We closed on our old house in April 2007. Because we bought the house so fast, the grandchildren of the estate ask us if they could hold their household auction at the house (one week after we closed). We said YES.

The grandchildren all lived out of state and did not attend their auction. The first item sold at the auction was our front door screen door. OMG. We protested and got nowhere. It was gone, and we could not buy it back.

Near the end of the auction, we were able to buy-back the second front porch screen door. Both doors are shown above in the 1905 photo. The young lady second from the left is our own Mabel, daughter of the original builder/owner
John Olson Wrolstad. I owe it to the Wrolstad family to find a similar door. Do you think this door was a stock item from an 1890's catalog??? Do you think other screen doors exist? Will you help me find one?

Here's a place that makes screen doors. Maybe send them the picture and see it they can duplicate it.

oh my gosh what a beautiful entrance--such unusual and interesting detail...sorry about the auction loss....let's assume the buyers have a sweet old house and really appreciate the door...

i didn't see anything in wisconsin here but perhpas you'll find someone who will fit your needs...i know that vintage doors make a solid good quality door...may i suggest spanish cedar or mahogany? today's pine will just not hold up unless you can locate old tight straight grain lumber... http://restorationandbuildingservices.c ... token=K260

Gezzzzzzzz,I can sympathize. The PO of my house had a house auction as well. When we purchased the home but before took possession we lost a couple of interior doors to the auction hammer. Like you I was p&st, but to no avail.

Hindsight is 20/20, but what I don't understand is why items attached to the house (doors, windows, mantels, whatever) are auctioned separately, especially when the house is being sold. It's not like a piece of furniture sitting in a room. This isn't the first time I've heard about this.

I also want to say I've seen that screen door pattern somewhere else before. Like the others have said, it would probably be easier to have a reproduction made, as screen doors were sold in many sizes. Since that is an odd-sized door, you may never find the one you need in those exact dimensions. We're running into the same thing with our house. It originally had a nice original storm door that had a window sash pane and screen that could be changed out. Someone in the 1990s replaced it with a hideous aluminum screen door. We've found several of the right style/pattern, but none were the dimensions we needed.

With the picture I am sure you can get it made. But it will not be cheap(figure $500 ish at least) and that is a guess on my part. I looked into having custom storm doors made that are three feet wide by six feet tall and they were going to run me $750 each and that was without the gingerbread(but a screen door uses a lot less wood and so should be cheaper).
