Got Prints?

Postby michaelskis on Wed Apr 25, 2012 3:27 pm

A friend of mine block over owns a wonderful historic house that they turned into a B&B. In it’s 125 years only a few people have owned it, and as such, things have been included with the house. One of which was a set of the original blueprints for the construction of the house. They have each page framed and they line the basement hallway.

It took me 3 years to find information about the original owner of my house, but I have no idea who the architect was or if prints for the house still exist. I would love to find some and have a few ideas regarding where I might look.

Do you have prints for your house? If so do you have any scanned images? (We all like photos) How did you get your hands on them? Even more so knowing that they are well over 100 years old now?

A friend has partial blueprints. Just yesterday, he mentioned this. The fireplace was crossed out. The note says, "Too expensive." The cost was $50. The stained glass window was crossed out. The note says, "Too expensive." To this day, there is no fireplace or stained glass. The house is plenty lovely in other ways.

My ground floor is laid out very much like a Frank Lloyd Wright home published in a magazine two - three years before my build date. I maintain that the owner read about the plans in her magazine, saved the magazine, and had her house built.

We have blueprints for the detached garage and blueprints for the foundation/chimneys that have some of the house details.
We were told that's all there were(I presume they were in the attic), but it seems like all the more sellable or interesting blueprints must have left at some point, or were mysteriously destroyed.

And why do my blueprints have the original owners name, the architects name, but no date!
Sure is hard to find when my house was built even with blueprints.

I doubt my house had blueprints; I'm sure it was farmer built after the barn was constructed! My neighbor was just sent the original prints for his 1950s ranch by the POs. His house has had some interesting changes made since it was built!
