This belongs in the Before And After Picture Hall Of Fame, if I do say so myself. I can't take credit since I didn't do any of the work, but I can post pictures for you crazy photo addicts, so here you go.

GARAGE BEFORE, or rather on the first day or so of work

Work went in two phases: a local old-house contractor did what he could to straighten the structure and remove the old roof, or anyway what there was of it.


Then my uncle and parents rebuilt the roof, with a little help shingling from my 80-year-old Aunt Dee Dee.

That looks great! I have drove my a couple times on the way to our house and I can see it from the road and it looks nice. I too want to know about all those doors.

Hey have you seen our house since it was painted. We have the tan on Sean and I painted some black trim around the gutter. We still need the windows and the porches done but just changing that white to tan has made it look soooo much better.

Snort! That's the $64,000 question, innit? Okay...The lot is 50 feet wide, and the garage is probably 45 feet wide. It has five bays, each with its own large door on the alley side and its own people door on the yard side. One of the large garage doors was replaced thus (Remember Angolito's furnace?):



The house retains none of its original interior doors, but I have a sneaking suspicion I know where they went...

Oh, thank you! Nobody actually....in fact WE thought there wasn't much hope for it, until we bought the property and took a really good look at everything. My husband already has tweaked some of the doors for improved operation. Later this summer or fall, our crew will be installing 3 overhead garage doors [not my idea], so the "yurt's cousin" will be removed. (Maybe we'll make it into a room dividing screen...) We intend to do a more thorough job fixing up the two remaining wooden doors and of course the paint needs attention.

For the moment though we're satisfied with the novelty of a solid roof, and have relocated our warehouse (formerly in the back yard).

You know, a lot of people would have let that garage go or renovated it on the cheap. You did an absolutely beautiful job with it and if I could I would give you a prize for preserving it!
