I'll try and get some detail photos of the mantle for you this evening after work.

Good point about the sidelines. Last winter I just put plastic on them, but real storms would be much better. I'll have to look into it.

Heck some day I'd like to replace all the leaky triple track with better quality storms too.

We installed an antique leaded glass casement window from Susan's grandmother's Beacon Hill house a few years back. I had a storm window made to cover & protect it from the elements which worked very well sealing it up. I have side lights on my house but they are under a porch & don't appear to ice up in the winter---of course south central Pennsylvania isn't northern Vermont ! on

Thanks for the picture. I've been gathering pictures and architectural drawings looking for one that fits the room that I can reproduce. I been saving this task for last in my living room. I have a set of antique rounds and hollows handplanes I have never used and need to sharpen. I don't have much experience with wooden planes so I'll have a learning curve.

I'm getting ready to install spring bronze on my back door. Do you have any photos showing how you dealt with the header and threshold?

I'll try and take a couple photos this week and post them.

I put the sprint bronze on the header as well and beveled the ends slightly where it meets the bronze in the jamb.

I put a couple small pieces of felt in the corners at the bottom of the vertical spring bronze run, and then I used the rubber door bottom with built in sweep that came with the door for the threshold seal. Not as long lasting as the bronze but so far it gets the job done and is pretty much invisible.

Here is the header and threshold treatments. Its hard to see but I stuffed felt squares into the corners top and bottom.

You can also probably tell that the header piece I had to pull out and redo once... I didn't get it quite straight enough leaving the bronze bowed out...
