Gene, hey neighbor! I didn't notice you are down the road from me.

In addition to Mt Holly, also take a drive through the side streets of Haddonfield NJ where there are many shutter-clad houses to look at. And finally, my shutters are from Headhouse Square Custom Shutters in Spring City PA, here is their web site http://www.headhousesquare.com/ and there are many images and vids in the gallery. Should give some ideas.

Most old PA houses with shutters had solid raised panel shutters on the first floor & louvered adjustable shutters for ventalation on the second. I thought this was odd when we bought our 1840s vintage PA farmhouse but that's the way all the old houses around me are outfitted---my shutters are mostly original!

Don I was thinking the same, panels first floor ,louvers on the second floor.I guess the first floor panels were for security reasons, and louvers on the secound for some sort of security and ventiation at the same time.
I have no problem building panel shutters ,have the shop and machines, but louver style will be a challenge.I got lucky and just scored a bunch of 1x12'' redwood, gene

Excellent on your wood score! You may be able to pick up some used louvered shutters at building reuse places; I was able to buy a pair I needed for a window missing them. The were not exactly the right length but I was able to cut them down to fit.
