coating the walls of a michigan basement

Postby nickcounts on Tue Oct 24, 2006 8:23 am

I recently bought a home that was built around 1910. It has a Michigan basement that has been neglected. Although the footers are sound (we had a structural engineer check it out), the retaining wall beneath the footers is deteriorating and it was suggested that I rebuld some of the areas that have completly fallen apart and coat the remaining portions of the retaining wall with a mortar. What type of mortar should I use to coat the walls to help hold them together. Rememeber, this is just the retaining wall, so it has no structural support directly.
