Exterior Color Recommendation 1925 Bungalow

Postby acoop on Thu Feb 05, 2009 9:01 am

I would like to paint my 1925 Bungalow in the spring and would like some suggestions for paint color. I put a new roof on in October and it is not the color I had thought it was, more light gray than I imagined. I also have the brick fireplace to take into account. I bourhgt the house in May, it came with the white lattice on the front, wondering what to do about that too. Suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

i am thinking a darker green< with a little blue to it > for the body, and a nice buttery yellow for the trim. maybe a good strong terra cotta ( just another word for orange) for a third color.

Like this? Not sure what colors to put where on this for some reason.

i love that green. try the buttery warm yellow where you have the terra cotta, including the lattice. details in a much more saturated terra cotta. think dark orange.

i love those color wizard programs.

I like the part below the screens white, but, personally, I'd change them out to simple upright rails. Maybe as simple as 2x2's, with 3 inches between them. Lattice, to me, looks too "gardeny", if that makes sense.

Wow I would not have imagined those colors, so thank you. I agree I like the slats instead of the lattice. Do you think the dark color woulld make the house look smaller? I would like to ehance the size to make it appear larger. I am a little conservative, like simple, contemporary clean lines.....but woudl like to make it appear more what it may have looked like in 1925. What do you think of a slate grey/blue, too boring? I lived in a 4 bedroom ranch for 20 years, totally boring. Thank you for helping me!

Earth tones were popular for the Craftsman/Bungalow era.

You can get some great ideas from the book Bungalow Colors - Exteriors by Robert Schweitzer.

Here's a color chart from the period:
