chandeliers to sort through

All,

I was given a number of chandeliers by a friend to use in my house. I have shown several of them below. I installed one in the dining room this week as it seems to fit in well. I am working on cleaning up the others and having them rewired to see where I can use them in the house. Most are from the turn of the last century. The first one is the one I was thinking of for flame shades for the four torch lights that are on top.



Here are a few photos of putting up the chandelier in the dining room. I added the medallion and hung the chandelier this weekend. I am not sure if it should be a bit lower but it looks good.

I don't think it needs to be any lower. I absolutely love it. Works perfectly with the decor.

Typically it is 30-34" above the surface of the DR table (bottom of fixture that is) if the ceiling is higher, then it is like 3" for every foot higher than 8' the ceiling is. The right height is important - too high - it looks dumb - too low - it looks dumber. And it poorly reflects upon those that hung it in the first place! Ha!

Well I had it hung 30 inches over the table because it seemed right and I have a bit over 9 foot ceilings so I guess it is fine.
I have seen this type and if it is too high it looks silly. The newer ones usually have a ball shade inside but this one has a cluster of 4 sockets so I did not want to see them unless you are sitting down. It seems to work.

If you find there is a glare from the socket bulbs at night when seated, try switching to a clear rather than frosted bulb. I had dinner one night in a dining room with a similar shade. The glare from the frosted bulb was blinding unless you kept your eyes on your plate. so check it out a night. Beautiful fixtures and a great friend.
