Need new cabinet hinges to replace 1950s Amerock hinges

Postby bungalowdiy on Sat May 19, 2018 3:28 pm

A respected local decorative hardware store sold me some modern hinges to replace my 1950s kitchen cabinet hinges. Despite my bringing the door and old hinges to the store, the new hinges don't fit/work. I went to a couple big box stores and also researched online, buying four more different hinge types, none of which fit.

I consulted the original cabinet manufacturer who advised me that my old hardware is Amerock, and he referred me to an "old Amerock" dealer (online). The dealer advised me that the profile/steps of the door and frame make it very difficult to find modern hardware that will work, and recommended that all I can do is keep my old Amerock hinges. They are an ornate style - I believe he called them "bird wing."

Am posting here to see if anyone else has encountered a similar problem. The old hinges are fine, but I don't like the style.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
