a listing of preservation societies

Sat Jul 28, 2007 2:09 pm

would it be appropriate for there to be a sticky with local historic preservation contacts here? is that part of advertising revenue? if we can start a list of non-profit sites for preservation i would like to start it with our site.... http://www.heritageaction.com

Here's a couple from the central Illinois area:

Old House Society - Bloomington, IL

Preservation & Conservation Association - Champaign, IL

This is our local organization. They do lots of good work, including saving buildings from demolition, salvage, home tours, improvement grants, tours, workshops, pamphlets, and even a program to prevent iron gates from being stolen. Good folks all around.

Here's our organization:
We have an architectural salvage operation and also operate a rehabbed 1871 church as a rental hall. In addition, we sponsor an annual tour of homes, offer grant programs, and present seminars.

Some other groups I've surfed upon:
Heritage Hill Neighborhood Association (Grand Rapids, MI) http://www.heritagehillweb.org/justthe.htm

Iowa City Friends of Historic Preservation http://www.ic-fhp.org/

Cincinnati Preservation Association http://www.cincinnatipreservation.org/index.html

Historic York (PA) Inc. http://www.historicyork.org/index1.htm

Mexican War Streets Society (Pittsburgh) http://www.mexicanwarstreets.org/splash2.html

Reservoir Hill Improvement Council (Baltimore) http://www.reservoirhill.net/index.htm

Broadway Historic District Association (Rock Island, IL) http://www.broadwaydistrict.org/Index.htm
