Mary I want your house and your garden (even if I won't keep it up). Good good I'm deeply in love!

As to ours...I'm seeing things begin to show their true colors every day. I can see I have oddles of peonies (which I love) so they'll be relocated. Rest assured all...blooms will happen before anything goes. I expect this summer we'll leave it as is (if it's a weed with a nice looking leaf it's gonna live til I figure it out LOL) then the next summer we'll make change.

But I did agree today to give a portion of the yard to a local preschool my son just started attending. They used to have a little garden but it was taken by the food bank (ok thats ok but they both needed it). So I've agreed to let them come to the house once a week and work their little plots and can't wait to see them get going :)

Mary, where did you manage to find that fountain? That's just like the one in the center of campus at the college I went to, it's extremely old. My wife and I had our engagement pictures taken at it, I would love to get one for our new place as the centerpiece of our garden.

Have been off the computer for a few days due to a nasty cold...

Thanks Igloochic, but I am loving your home! Only 1 1/2 baths and 2 bedrooms here! :) Also sounds like you have beautiful gardens of your own to explore this spring/summer.

Eden, thank you. It is an on going process. So many things we would like to do, but never enough time, or time but not enough money....always something!

boot, we got the fountain from Albuquerque, NM. If you are seriously interested PM me and I will get the info for you. It is cast aluminum, not cast iron. We got it "raw" and painted it ourselves.

Beautiful gardens! Igloochic...I'm in awe! I understand how hard it is to keep up though. I love to garden and all my life, I have created enormous amounts of work for myself. No pictures of mine just now...Hurricane Ike destroyed some, then two feral hogs moved in, and then we had an exceptionally cold winter. But, the hogs will be contained, the garden will be re-done this spring, but I am going to try to keep it down to a manageable size. There are two acres in the yard itself, and the upper part, I let grow like a meadow and only mow it a couple times a year...but the other part I have lots of plants and very little grass to mow.

Flowers anyone? This year has been horrible for my flowers. I lost a quite a few plants due to the exceptionally cold spring we are having this year. A little bit of warm and them freezing and then a little bit of warm and then freezing again. The babies aren't happy. I'd love to see how other people's gardens are doing! Even my lilac hasn't bloomed so I need a fix!

It seems like forever since I've been here! It's been a pretty busy Spring...lots of yard work to do. All my trees got trimmed up for the season & my roses have been blooming like crazy.

Over Memorial weekend I finally addressed some issues with the front yard. I finally got rid of the last 2 of the boxwood bushes next to my porch steps! Jeez I hated those things. The more the humidity rose, the worse those things smelled!

Image
Offered them on Freecycle & a guy came with his truck & a tow chain! See Ya!!

Image
All the extra digging on the right is from the drain pipe in the yard for the downspout.
It had collapsed & it was time to get this fixed...

Image
So the digging began....

Image
My neighbor had some extra stone in his back yard...perfect to assist in some drainage

Image
Just enough stone under the pipe....

And all I need now is some seed.

Any suggestions on what to put in front of the porch?? Left side gets sun in the late afternoon...right side is shaded by the tree all day. Hmmm....what will grow in both? I don't want another bush type thing, and I prefer a perennial.

utopia - you might want to consider hosta, bleeding heart, ferns, or astilbe. All are shade perennials and they die back during the winter.
