Ok, soooo... I did get the second and third coat on.... guess what, you can still see streaks of white showing through! Going to put on a fourth coat, and if THAT doesn't work call it a day. Not sure when this is going to happen, right now we have family staying over and the second round of university exam season is drawing near, so I'm more focused on English literature of the Tudor and Stuart era than on painting. I also got to fix the 97-year old toilet seat that broke some time ago (the screws that hold the hinges rusted away). A few weeks ago, one hinge of the new replacement snapped clean through and prompted me to fix the original (which also happens to be a thousand times more comfortable to sit on).
The bad thing with electricity : it almost always works.

I love the rim lock on the black door. Where did you find it?

That rim lock was actually already installed on the house when we bought it. I just relocated it to this new door. It isn't an old item, but it is a modern reproduction that works with a normal style cylinder, and it looks old. The interior is a skeleton type key while the outside is a normal keyed deadbolt cylinder. It's great for the door, we love it.

Wow it looks great! BTW our house has the same mail slot you bought on eBay as part of its original detail. I smile every time I see it and hope you will too. :)
