My roof is about 60 square yards and the slates which are 14x6 inch cost £600. I was able to do the job myself, but I reckon to get it done for me would be in the region of £3,000.
I would have no chance of thatching it myself and to get it done would be in the region of £10,000.
There are 3 main types of thatch used here. Mine is water reed which used to come from Norfolk, but now is mainly imported from Eastern Europe. Thatch used to be the peasants roof material, but now is really expensive.
