We have the same windows! Are they in good shape? I have to strip and reglaze ours. Do you know who made them? Do you have screens or storms? Sorry for all the questions! You are one of the only people on here with what appears to be steel casement windows set into the plaster with out any casings. So, I have LOTS of questions.

Ours were made by fenestra and we have the original screens (some are made of copper!) but not any of the storms. I am curious to what the storms looked like. Blaine Window Hardware makes replacement parts incase any of yours our broken. Most of ours were broken off when we moved in.

Thanks!

Ask away! We definitely have the same (or nearly identical) windows. I do not know who made ours -- how did you figure that out?

We have some screens (1-2 per room) and we have all the exterior storms. The storms are great -- they don't interfere with the look of the window and the window opens easily with the storm on.

Some of the windows are in great shape and work perfectly, and some do not open. We have one that will not close all of the way. So, they need some work. All of the steel is well covered with paint, and I don't see any rust. We are not handy, so we will have to find an expert to work on them eventually. But so far, they don't seem to be super drafty. This is our second old house, though, so we may be more tolerant of drafts than some people.

I would love to see the copper window screens.

Thank you for the tip about Blaine. We have three window handles that are broken off, so I do need some replacement hardware.

Let me know if you want to see some pictures of the storms and I will get some to you.

Yes, please post some pictures of the storms. We are going to have some made. We were thinking of interior magnetic storms because I thought it would be a hassell to have to put exterior storms on the 2nd and 3rd story every fall. I have heard of exterior storms that allow the windows to still be operable(so they don't have to be removed in the Spring) from another poster, but I don't know who makes them.

The company Fenestra is inscribed on a few of the windows in the home and also on the screens. We have the screens in the garage right now, I will pull out one of the copper ones for a photo this weekend.

Thanks so much!

Welcome to you, 1935 English. Thank you for the lovely photo tour. Your kitchen is the bomb.

Isn't that the case tho--you put in victorian fixtures and then realized they were not period. They look fine, tho. On this forum, we obsess over the exact fixture for a 1935 potty. ha ha Personally, I like the modern day comfort height.

That was the one thing my DH insisted on - a modern bathroom, he agreed to keeping the original windows in the house although he originally wasn't too keen on the idea.

But he wouldn't give on the bathroom fixtures - I do get to recycle old bead board from the breakfast nook which is little beaten up though so that should add some character to the bathroom.

Jen - I too love your bathroom, it's beautiful.

Hi LupinFarm! The stuff on my ceiling is structural glass, specifically Carrara Glass, also known as Vitrolite. You can read more about it here: http://www.nps.gov/hps/tps/briefs/brief12.htm

Here are a few more pics of the glass ceilings in my house:

Kitchen ceiling: ImageThis room has pink grout. It's the only one that we did not regrout, so it looks a little dirty.

Hall bath ceiling: ImageThis room has tan grout, which we kept.

Master bath ceiling: Image
ImageThis one is my favorite ceiling. I like the two-tone effect, which is also behind the sink and toilet. The grout in this room is a blue-green.
