House in my neighborhood in TOH magazine

There is a house in my new neighborhood that is going to be featured in the "Save This Old House" feature of This Old House magazine.

It is an interesting looking house. I don't understand why they call it Arts and Crafts style though, but then I am no expert. It looks English to me - maybe English Arts and Crafts? Have you seen the inside? I wonder how run down it is. I am not fond of This Old House, but I do look at that back page and lust after the houses to be saved. It is the best feature of the magazine in my opinion.

The front looks kind of Flemish in style, not Arts and Crafts.

I don't know why the author of that article calls it Arts and Crafts, either. I've heard it called Flemish before.

Here is the Preservation Directory listing of the house with a few interior pictures:

It's pretty run-down, and needs lots of work. But, you could probably get it for a lot less than the $15k that they are asking for it. But, restoration would still have to be a labor of love, because it's unlikely that you could sell it for more than 50-60k, even in pristine condition. (at least, based on the current real-estate environment)

Does anyone know if the added exposure from being featured in TOH magazine helps get these houses sold?

In one issue a year or so ago, before I got mad at them, TOH had an update article on the houses that had been saved. Lots had, and they had pictures of the work done on a few of them. I wish more home magazines would publish articles of saved houses, it is so interesting to see what people do and it would promote reuse instead of teardown.

Flemish eh? Well that seems better than Arts and Crafts.
